Return of Property or Evidence

Safekeeping or Found Property
For safekeeping or found property, call the Evidence Unit for an appointment at 425-388-7050. The evidence room holds found property for 60 days, after which time items may be disposed of per state law.

Items of a personal nature such as credit cards are destroyed, or in the case of identification (passports, military identification, or mail) are returned to the proper agency.

Evidence
In most cases, deputies and/or prosecutors must approve release of evidence.

Appointments are required for all property releases. Items may require special handling so appointments are necessary.

In addition, background checks are required for the release of any firearm, even if you possess a concealed pistol license (CPL).

What You'll Need
You will need to provide the following information:
  • Picture identification (state-issued identification card, driver's license, passport, or military identification is required at the time of release.)
  • Photocopies are not accepted.
Payment & Fees
Finders wishing to take ownership of unclaimed found property must pay $10 to the county, per state law outlined in RCW 63.21.
