Deputies Investigate Fatal Bicycle Vehicle Collision

Today at about 10:45 am Snohomish County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 6500 block of 240TH ST SE, Woodinville, in unincorporated Snohomish County, to a report of a fatal collision between a bicyclist and a car.  The bicyclist, believed to be a man in his 60s, died at the scene from injuries received when he struck an oncoming vehicle while attempting to pass other cyclists ahead of him.  His hometown is believed to be Kent, Washington and the Snohomish County Medical Examiner will be responsible for positive identification of the victim, and determining the cause and manner of death. 

The Sheriff’s Office Collision Investigations Unit is on scene conducting their investigation on the exact circumstances of the incident.  Speed or alcohol are not considered to be factors and it is not anticipated that the driver will be charged.

Drivers are reminded that warmer weather brings an increase in bicycles, pedestrians and motorcycles sharing the roadways.  Bicyclists are also reminded that all rules of the road must be followed when cycling, and to be especially attentive to road conditions and their surroundings.
