The persistence of a deputy and his K9 companion paid off and a suspected car thief is in jail.  This morning around 3:30 AM, a Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputy was driving along Hwy 9 south of Lake Stevens when he passed a white Ford 350 truck that was damaged and dragging debris.  Becoming suspicious, the deputy began to follow the vehicle into Lake Stevens, at which point the driver crashed the truck, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot from the scene.  The deputy, who happened to be a K9 handler, followed with his dog, catching up with the suspect and taking him into custody.  The King County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the crashed vehicle was a truck that had been stolen earlier from a water treatment plant in Woodinville.  The 38 year-old Woodinville man was booked into the Snohomish County jail for attempting to allude and resisting arrest.
