VERLOT, Wash. – The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office has launched a search and rescue operation for a female climber near Vesper Peak, south of the Big Four Ice Caves.  Earlier today, two other climbers were in the area when they heard a woman call for help.  The climbers made it safely out of the backcountry and went to the Verlot Ranger Station around 12:30 p.m. and alerted authorities.

The Sheriff's Office helicopter crew located the woman in terrain that is extremely difficult to access.  The air crew had to leave the area for supplies and personnel, but will be returning and a full-scale ground SAR operation has also been launched.  Whether the rescue will be by ground or air is yet to be determined.
