Leave & Holidays

The County offers many types of leave to employees who receive a regular appointment and who are employed for 20 or more hours per week. Different rules apply depending on if you are a Classified employee, Management/Exempt employee, and/or if you are represented by a Union.

Holidays

The County observes 10 paid legal holidays. Regular Classified and Management/Exempt employees are eligible for paid legal holidays. Refer to Snohomish County Code Section 3A.06.020 for details.

Management & Exempt Employees

Management/Exempt employees are granted Leave with Pay based on months of employment, in accordance with Table 1 (shown below). The days that are granted during an employee’s first year of employment will be pro-rated based on their date of hire. Refer to Snohomish County Code Chapter 3.68 for details.

Classified Employees

Regular classified employees are eligible for various types of leave:

  • Vacation Leave: Regular full-time employees (1.0 FTE) will accrue vacation leave based on the number of hours actually worked or while on paid leave status in accordance with Table 2 (shown below). Regular part-time employees will accrue vacation leave proportionately to the number of hours the employee is on regular pay status. Refer to Snohomish County Code Section 3A.06.050 for more details.
  • Sick Leave: Regular full-time employees (1.0 FTE) will accrue sick leave at the rate of one working day (8 hour maximum) for each full calendar month of employment. Regular part-time employees will accrue sick leave proportionately to the number of hours he or she is on regular pay status. Refer to Snohomish County Code Section 3A.06.040 for more details.
  • Floating Holidays: Regular full-time employees (1.0 FTE) receive 2 floating holidays each calendar year. Regular part-time employees receive floating holidays on a pro-rata basis. Employees hired after June 30th are eligible for 1 floating holiday during that calendar year. Refer to Snohomish County Code Section 3A.06.020 for more details.
  • Other leave types: Refer to Snohomish County Code Section 3A.06.060 to learn about other leave types including bereavement leave, military leave, jury duty, and education leave.

If you are represented by a Union, different leave policies may apply, than policies outlined in Snohomish County Code Section 3A.06. Refer to your Collective Bargaining Agreement for details. Most represented employees have the same vacation leave accruals provided in Table 1 (shown below). The vacation leave accruals that deviate from Table 2, are provided in Tables 3, 4, and 5 (shown below).
