Air Quality Sensors at Solid Waste Facilities

Unfortunately, wildfires are becoming increasingly common in the Pacific Northwest. Not only can wildfires be devastating to our state’s landscapes and those who call them home, but they can also significantly worsen our air quality. When wildfire smoke is in the air, it can negatively impact the health of those who are exposed to it. Here at Snohomish County, the safety of our customers and staff is of utmost importance. As such, we have installed PurpleAir sensors to monitor the Air Quality Index (AQI) and to help ensure the air quality is at a safe level for everyone visiting our sites. You can access this information on our Facility Locations webpage for real-time air quality data. In accordance with State and Federal guidelines, extremely poor air quality may necessitate temporarily closing a site in order to protect the health and safety of our customers and staff. This is a rare occurrence and will only take place when the AQI reaches or exceeds a hazardous level of 301. If you are planning to visit us and notice conditions are very smokey, we encourage you to check our website ahead of time for the most up-to-date information regarding current air quality and any site closures. Please Provide Your Zip Code to the Site Attendant on Duty

Starting 1 August 2023, Snohomish County is asking all customers who are visiting transfer stations and drop box locations, to provide their zip code for the disposal of garbage. This is an initial stage of data collection to support future Solid Waste projects and programs. We thank you for your cooperation.
