Firefighters across Snohomish County have been deployed to the region. The Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management (DEM) is using its newly developed support concept for Okanogan County’s Emergency Operations Center, the Emergency Management Assistance Team (EMAT). The Snohomish County EMAT is comprised of approximately a dozen emergency management professionals and some of its critical partners. The team’s focus will be to support the emergency operations center structure, its coordinator, and to transition the county and its impacted communities toward the recovery phase of the disaster. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office has been requested to be prepared to offer mutual aid in the form of small teams, paired with Chelan County deputies, to help evacuate and secure property threatened by encroaching fires. We are proud of those providing critical support during this disaster and wish them continued safety.
Firefighters across the state, nation and even the world are on the front lines of these unpredictable and destructive fires. It is heartbreaking that this tragedy has taken the lives of three brave firefighters. Our thoughts are with their families and those who continue to battle the wildfires.
