2019 Candidate Filing

Congratulations on your decision to run for public office!

The "File for Office" link at the bottom of this page allows you to select and submit a declaration of candidacy for an office that files with Snohomish County.

The following multi-county offices file with King County:

  • City of Bothell Council positions
  • Northshore School District Directors
  • Ronald Wastewater District Commissioners

Multi-county races will appear in both the King and Snohomish County Local Voters' Pamphlet (LVP). Candidates who file with King County for multi-county races will be emailed a link to submit a statement and photo for the Snohomish County LVP.

Before you get started, you will need:

1. your name as you are registered to vote

2. address where you are registered to vote

3. your date of birth

4. your personal email address

5. campaign contact information - phone, email, website. This is published in the LVP and is how your constituents will reach you.

Once your filing is approved, your name will appear on the ballot unless you officially withdraw your candidacy before 5pm on May 20. Filing fees are not refundable.

Local Voters' Pamphlet Submissions

Snohomish County prepares a local voters' pamphlet for all races in the Primary and the General Election.

Your local voters' pamphlet statement and photo are due May 24 if you are in the Primary. You will receive an email on Friday evening, May 17 letting you know if you will be in the Primary. If you move on to the General Election, you will be sent a link to submit an updated statement for the General Election Voters' Pamphlet. If you choose not to submit a new statement, your original statement will be used. Candidates who are not in the Primary must submit their statements/photos by August 9.

Note: When filing online, once you reach the end of the filing pages, there will be buttons to enter your voters' pamphlet statement and photo. You do not need to submit these at the time of filing. When your filing has been approved, you will receive an email with a link to the statement/photo submission application. Candidate statements and photos are due May 24 for those who will be in the Primary and August 9 for those who are not in the Primary.

If you did not submit a candidate statement and photo at the time of filing, a link will be provided in your filing approval email that comes from the Secretary of State's automated system. If you submitted your statement and photo at the time of filing, you may ignore this link. Additional information and submitting statements and photos is located in the 2019 Candidate Guide.
