General protocols for participation in a Zoom hearing:

Please Note: Remote attendance for the Civil Trial Calendar and civil trials must be approved via court order.

1. Zoom hearings may be accessed via telephone, computer, tablet or other internet-capable devices. Determine how you will participate in your zoom hearing by reading the instructions for each option below.

Parties and attorneys who have the Zoom application are encouraged to utilize it, even for audio-only hearings, and should enter the meeting using their full name. This will expedite the process of being admitted to the hearing and allow the hearing to start timely.

2. Participants shall remain muted until asked to unmute themselves and will promptly identify themselves when asked to do so by the clerk or the court.

3. Participants appearing via video shall ensure that they are properly attired, and do not engage in any activity they would not be permitted to engage in while in a physical courtroom.

4. Anyone who has a scheduled hearing must appear via Zoom on the date of the hearing by the time the court calls the case or else the person may be deemed to have failed to appear. Any participant who appears late for their Zoom hearing will remain in the waiting room until the end of the calendar or until the judicial officer authorizes their law clerk to allow the attorney or party into the Zoom meeting.

5. Pursuant to CR 16, SCLAR 0.02(e)(4), and Administrative Order 37-20, the recording of any courtroom proceeding, without the express permission of the judicial officer, is strictly prohibited.

To participate via computer:

1. Ensure your computer has the Zoom software installed. You may visit Zoom.us to install the needed software at no charge.

If you do not wish to install software, you may utilize the web client. You must be signed in to a Zoom account and utilize a browser that meets the requirements. Visit Zoom.us and login to your account to learn more about using the web client.

2. Ensure your computer has a working camera, microphone and speakers that are compatible with Zoom. You can do this by joining a test meeting online at Zoom.us/test.

If your microphone and/or speakers do not work, you can use a phone to connect to the audio of the meeting. Follow the instructions below for participating via telephone.

3. Ensure the internet or network connection you plan to use is steady and will not drop or fade out during your hearing. Ethernet/wired connections on a computer are best.

4. Ensure you are in a quiet space and turn off voice-activated devices around you when possible.
