Who We Are

The Snohomish County Advisory Council on Aging, mandated by the Older Americans Act of 1965, was established by Snohomish County as the Advisory Council to the County Executive and to the County's Human Services Department, Aging and Disability Services, Long Term Care and Aging (LTCA).

What We Do

 The purpose of the Council on Aging is to advise, assist, and advocate for older persons and those adults with disabilities in Snohomish County. We do this by:
  • Keeping the County Executive and other elected officials apprised of the concerns and needs of the older populations;
  • Assisting and guiding the work of the Long Term Care and Aging group in fulfilling its stated missions; and supporting ongoing evaluation of program services; and policy involved in the implementation of the Snohomish County Area Plan on Aging.

Never Miss a Fullness of Time

I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, I am Dr. Nixon Opondo. It's humbling and an honor to have been elected Chair of the Snohomish County Council on Aging for the 2020-2021 term. I am excited to work with the COA members to advocate for the needs of Snohomish County seniors and adults with disabilities.

Like those who chaired before me, I take this role seriously. Our world, our community is changing moment by moment so it's important for us to do our part in advocating for the needs of our seniors.

The COA team works together on various projects and organizes and attends events that will shine a light on the needs of our seniors. Dedicating a small amount of time each month can make a big difference in their lives. I'm wondering, do you have 6-10 hours monthly that you are willing to dedicate to advocating the needs of our seniors by becoming a member of the COA?

Please reach out to the Long-Term Care staff or me if you have any questions that might help you in deciding to join the COA team.

"By giving back to others, we live our lives with a fullness of time."
