Sheriff’s Office Divers Recover Drowning Victim

Snohomish, Wash. –At about noon today, Sheriff’s Office helicopter crew members located the victim’s body in about 13 feet of water upstream from the Douglas Bar. The SCSO dive team recovered the victim at 1:21 PM; the body was released to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office. Snohomish County Search and Rescue Volunteers assisted in the operation.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office responded to a witnessed drowning near Bob Herman Wildlife Park, 14913 Connelly RD, Snohomish today at 12:30 AM. A 21 year old male from the City of Snohomish is missing after a canoe he was riding in capsized.  Witnesses told deputies that 4-5 young adults were having drinking party on a sand bar in an area of the Snohomish River known as Thomas Eddy. The canoe that was being used to ferry others to the party took on water and capsized spilling 3 people into a fast moving section of the river. A male who saw the victim drown, went into the river to search for his friend.

Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol and Dive Team, Snohomish Fire, Snohomish Police, and Snohomish County Search and Rescue participated in the initial search for the victim.  

The victim was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the accident. Witnesses told deputies that no one in the canoe had been wearing a floatation device. 

No further information is available for release at this time.
