Drowning Victim Mountain Loop Highway

GRANITE FALLS, WA. – The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue is on scene to recover the body of a 24 year old male drowning victim. The male, originally from Alaska, was kayaking with two friends when his kayak overturned in the river near the 28300 Block of the Mountain Loop Highway.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a drowning victim at 2:41 PM, in the river near a location known as Sand Hill. The reporting party located the victim several minutes after he went under water but was able to get him ashore. Resuscitation efforts were not successful.
The death is not considered suspicious at this time. Identification of the victim will be confirmed by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Due to the location of the victim along the weather and river conditions, Search and Rescue personnel are waiting until daylight tomorrow to recover the body.
