EVERETT, Wash. – The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office has hired a new Health Administrator for the jail. Nikki Behner worked at the Snohomish County jail from 2003-2009 and said she returned because of the positive changes she has seen made in medical services. Behner replaces Ed DaPra, who left the jail for a position at UW Medicine.
“I’m looking forward to working with the team in the jail and the county,” she said. “It really doesn’t feel like I have been gone for six years.”
“We are so fortunate Nikki has returned to work at the jail. She is going to take the medical unit to a whole new level,” said Corrections Bureau Chief Tony Aston.
Behner has worked in a variety of medical settings, including Harborview Medical Center, Sunrise Medical Clinic, and two jails. Her focus has been primarily on the homeless and those who do not have access to quality medical care.
Behner has completed advanced training and licensing coursework in corrections medicine. She received both her Master of Nursing degree in psychosocial nursing and Master of Public Health degree from the University of Washington. She plans to finish her doctoral degree in nursing from the UW Graduate School in June 2015.
