Index, Wash. - The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue unit and volunteer team have rescued a 67 year-old Des Moines man from a ledge near Merchant Peak.  The man, who is an experienced climber, realized he was unable to safely climb down from his position at about 5,000 feet and called 911 around 11 a.m. this morning.  The Sheriff’s Office helicopter rescue team arrived at the location aboard SnoHAWK 10 around 3 p.m., located the man and safely rescued him from his location.
