EVERETT, Wash. – The Sheriff’s Office is seeking witnesses by a suspect who attempted to “car jack” several occupied vehicles driving down 4th Ave W last night.
The suspect, a 17 year-old male, had been interrupted spray painting a wall near a mobile home park on 124th St SW, just west of 5th Ave W, by a deputy around 10:30 p.m. The suspect fled on foot from the area, running northbound. Another deputy saw the suspect run out onto 4th Ave W and proceeded to pursue the suspect on foot. The male, now running southbound in the traffic on 4th Ave W, stepped in front of a passenger car, waving his arms around. When the driver stopped the car, the suspect ran up to the driver’s door and started pulling on the door handle in what appeared to be an attempt to gain entry. The driver accelerated away. The suspect stopped at least two other cars in the same manner, pulling on the driver-side door handle trying to gain access. All three cars left the scene.
The suspect was taken into custody around 11 p.m. and booked in the Denny Juvenile Justice Center for malicious mischief, resisting arrest and second degree robbery.
Anyone who may have been driving along 4th Ave W between 10:30 and 11 p.m. yesterday who witnessed the attempted car-jackings, or was one of the vehicles the suspect approached, is asked to please contact the Sheriff’s Office Anonymous Tipline at 425-388-3845.
