SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – The Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) unit and the SAR Swiftwater Rescue Team recovered the body of a 25-year-old New Jersey woman near Wallace Falls Saturday morning.
Around 8 p.m. Friday, Park Rangers contacted a woman nearby the trailhead who reported she was hiking with her friend, but they became separated on the trail, and she was unsure of her friend’s location.
Deputies, Search and Rescue and Fire Rescue teams responded to assist with the search Friday night but were unable to locate the missing woman. Early Saturday morning, searchers returned to the location and located the victim’s body down river from the Wallace Falls Trail.
The Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue unit, with assistance from the SAR volunteer Swiftwater Rescue Team, recovered the victim’s body.
It is believed the two hikers were under the influence of mushrooms. The death appears to be accidental.
Positive identification of the decedent, as well as cause and manner of death, will come from the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.
