SNOHOMISH, Wash. – Around 4:30 p.m. Monday, Sheriff’s Office deputies and Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives responded to a three-vehicle fatal crash in the 6900 block of SR 9 in Snohomish. When deputies arrived, they located the victim, a 61-year-old man, deceased at the scene. The other two drivers had minor injuries and were not transported by aid.

During the investigation, detectives discovered the 61-year-old victim was driving a passenger vehicle northbound on SR 9 when he crossed the center line and struck a cement truck head on. The cement truck then lost control and sideswiped a third vehicle in the oncoming lane. The 61-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two drivers had minor injuries.

CIU detectives are still working to determine the cause of the crash, but do not believe drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.

State Route 9 was closed from Second Street to Bickford Ave for several hours Monday night while detectives investigated the crash.

Positive identification of the decedent, as well as cause and manner of death, will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.

This is the 14th serious collision that Sheriff’s Office CIU detectives have responded to so far this year.
