GRANITE FALLS, Wash. – On May 2, the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) detectives arrested a 58-year-old Granite Falls man for second-degree child rape and luring a minor.

On April 29, the 12-year-old victim was outside playing basketball with friends when the ball rolled down the street. The child ran after the ball and was approached by a neighbor. The neighbor asked the child to come inside his home to help with his dog. The victim entered the residence and was sexually assaulted by the suspect. The incident was later reported to a parent who contacted law enforcement.

During the investigation, detectives discovered multiple witnesses who report occasions of grooming behavior from the suspect towards minor children.

Sheriff’s Office Special Investigation Unit (SIU) detectives arrested the suspect at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2 at his residence in Granite Falls. The suspect was transported and booked into the Snohomish County Jail for second-degree child rape and luring a minor.

The suspect made his initial court appearances and was held on $250,000 bail. On Friday, May 12, the suspect posted $250,000 cash bail and was released from jail. A judge ordered the suspect to not have contact with any minor children while out on bail.

This remains an active investigation.
