Course Description
This course is designed to teach and encourage community members impacted by a disaster to prepare, take preservation actions and perform, as appropriate, light search and rescue response to aid their family and other community members in the immediate aftermath of a natural disaster or human-made incident. The course is not designed for the first responder community but would be appropriate for families of first responders along with all types of civic groups and individuals within the community.
Course Objectives
- Identify elements needed to prepare, act, and survive a disaster involving their community.
- Demonstrate survival strategies to rescue and care for themselves, their families, and their pets during and in the immediate aftermath of an event.
- Demonstrate techniques to provide assistance in the search, light rescue, care, and safety of their neighbors.
This course is designed for the whole community. Target audience is: youth groups, church groups, boy scouts, girl scouts, businesses, neighborhood associations, and any community members. Age restrictions apply and are 14+ with parent/guardian present and signed release form.
