Snohomish County Seeks Volunteers to Serve on County Charter Amendment Committees

Everett, WA—Snohomish County is one of seven charter counties in the State of Washington. The Snohomish County Charter was adopted in 1980 and first amended in 1986.  The County Charter may, by public vote, be amended every ten years. In 2015, Snohomish County voters elected a Charter Review Commission composed of fifteen members, three from each Council District.

On June 29, 2016, the Charter Review Commission voted to submit the following propositions to the public for the November 2016 ballot.

Proposition 1 - Commission on Human Rights
Proposition 2 - Public Advocate
Proposition 3 - Nondiscrimination
Proposition 4 - Hearing Examiner Appeals
Proposition 5 - Council Meetings
Proposition 6 - Appointment and Confirmation
Proposition 7 - Redistricting

More information about the Charter Review Commission can be found at http://www.snohomishcountywa.gov/CharterReviewCommission.

Snohomish County has the responsibility of appointing members to a committee that will write a statement for each measure (pro) and a committee that will write a statement against each measure (con). Committees are allowed to have up to three members.  Council is seeking people to serve on either a pro or con committee for each ballot measure.  If you are interested in serving on a committee, please submit a completed application to the Snohomish County Council no later than 12 noon on Monday, July 18, 2016.

Statements in support or opposition of charter amendments are to be submitted to the County by Tuesday, August 16, 2016.  Rebuttal statements in response to opposing committee statements are due by Friday, August 19, 2016.
