Snohomish County Hosting Open House to Shape Stormwater Management Program Priorities for 2018

Event to be held at County Admin. Office in Everett on May 4 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

EVERETT, Wash., April 28, 2017 – Every year, Snohomish County invests significantly in programs in the unincorporated county that prevent or reduce stormwater pollution. To learn more about these programs the public is invited to attend an open house on May 4, 2017. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and comment on the county’s Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) Plan and help influence the county’s pollution reduction program priority actions for 2018.

Departments across the county will be on hand to answer questions about the many county programs that reduce water pollution. These include Public Works, Planning and Development Services (PDS), Parks and Recreation and Paine Field Airport.

Stormwater Open House
When: Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Where: Snohomish County Admin. East Building | First Floor Public Meeting Room
3000 Rockefeller Avenue, Everett, WA 98201
What: Attendees are invited to drop by during the two-hour period to enjoy refreshments and conversation with county staff. There will not be a formal presentation.

“The quality of Snohomish County’s water is crucial to the quality of Snohomish County life,” said Snohomish County Executive, Dave Somers. “The county makes significant investments that reduce water pollution in our local streams. This open house is a great opportunity to hear from our residents about what programs they consider to be most important to further reduce water pollution.”

Snohomish County is required by federal regulation to take actions that minimize or prevent stormwater pollution under the county’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) municipal stormwater permit. The NPDES Permit requires the county to develop a Surface Water Management Program (SWMP) Plan to document the county’s intended action to comply with the NPDES permit. The county is also required to create opportunities for public involvement, participation and education about SWMP priorities and programs.
