Snohomish County Invites the Public to Give Input on Possible Light Rail Stations

Online open house and survey available until November 30 for the public to learn more and give feedback

EVERETT, Wash., October 31, 2018 – Snohomish County launched the second Light Rail Communities online open house and survey today. The public is invited to learn more about the county’s efforts to prepare the unincorporated areas near I-5 and 128th St (Mariner) and I-5 and 164th St (Ash Way) for the arrival of light rail. The online open house introduces possible station locations. Within the online open house, participants are asked to answer survey questions which will help narrow down the potential station locations.

“This is a unique opportunity to listen to Snohomish County residents as we plan for the arrival of light rail, a transformative improvement to how people move though our region. We are leveraging major transportation investments from ST2 and ST3 to benefit the community,” said Dave Somers, Snohomish County Executive. “This second online open house gives everyone a chance to offer their perspective on potential station locations and impacts to neighborhoods, including housing, transportation, development, and jobs.”

After meeting this summer with stakeholders, utilities, local municipalities, transit agencies, reviewing public comments and considering the project’s guiding principles, Snohomish County has developed three possible station locations for each station area. The public is now invited to give feedback on these locations.

Final decisions on the actual station location and alignment will be made by the Sound Transit Board, but the county’s project will help inform a Subarea Plan and future transportation planning. It will also inform the county’s Growth Management Act Comprehensive Plan (GMACP) and regional planning efforts.

The voter-approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) and Sound Transit 3 (ST3) will extend light rail from Northgate to Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood and eventually onto Everett via Paine Field. In the ST3 plan, two stations will

be located in unincorporated Snohomish County at 164th St (Ash Way Station) and 128th St (Mariner Station) near their respective intersection with I-5.
