Snohomish County Recognizes October 30th as National Weatherization Day
EVERETT, Wash., October 30, 2019 – Snohomish County recognizes October 30 as National Weatherization Day. The County’s Weatherization Program, and its program partners, helps low-income residents make their home more comfortable and healthier through home improvements such as installing insulation, air sealing, and replacing old heating systems. The program also provides education and tools to improve indoor air quality, reduce asthma, and minimize respiratory illness triggers in the home.
Snohomish County’s Weatherization Program, which started in the early 1980’s, weatherizes an average of 110 homes annually, saving the average homeowner about $324 on their utility bills each year. The program serves homeowners and renters with an income of 200% of federal poverty level or 60% median area family income, whichever is higher, depending on the number of people living in the home.
“Snohomish County’s Weatherization Program is important for the health and well-being of our residents,” said Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers. “Weatherization provides important home improvements, at no cost to the homeowner, while protecting health, preserving home value, and reducing the energy burden on low income households.”
The county’s program also has direct economic benefits, providing an average of $1.7 million in work for local contractors each year.
“We encourage qualified homeowners to apply for the Weatherization Program,” says Snohomish County Council Chair Terry Ryan. “Heating season is here and now is the time to improve the health, safety, and energy efficiency of your home.”
