Snohomish County to Resume Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Services at Transfer Stations and Drop Boxes on June 28

Granite Falls Drop Box will also Reopen June 28, Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Station to Reopen July 1

EVERETT, Wash., June 25, 2020 – Many Snohomish County residents have been responsibly and patiently storing their recyclables and household hazardous waste items during the COVID-19 pandemic. The wait to dispose of those items is almost over. Snohomish County transfer stations and drop boxes will reopen recycling and household hazardous waste disposal services to residential customers on Sunday, June 28. The Granite Falls Drop Box will also reopen June 28 and Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Station will reopen on July 1.  Both facilities will have longer hours of operations.

“The pandemic delayed the hiring of the seasonal employees needed to accommodate the normal increase in customers visiting our Solid Waste facilities during the spring and summer months,” Snohomish County Public Works Director Kelly Snyder said. “We adjusted and prioritized our staffing levels and appreciate our customers’ patience.”

Here is the full Solid Waste facilities’ schedule, which are open to the public from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.:

  • North County, Airport Rd and Southwest Recycling and Transfer Stations – open every day
  • Sultan Drop Box – open Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday*
  • Dubuque Drop Box – open Saturday through Tuesday*
  • Granite Falls Drop Box – open Thursday and Sunday (starting June 28)
  • Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Station  – open Wednesday through Saturday (starting July 1)*

* All Solid Waste Drop Box sites and the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Station will be closed on July 4. All county Transfer Stations will remain open on July 4 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Transfer stations and drop boxes only accept these household hazardous waste items: batteries, antifreeze, fluorescent light bulbs, propane tanks (BBQ size or smaller), motor oil, oil filters and fire extinguishers. For a complete list of the items accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Station, please visit https://www.snohomishcountywa.gov/477

Yard debris and clean wood will also be taken at reduced rates at transfer stations. Solid Waste has special limits on recyclables and does not accept E-waste. Please visit our recycling web page prior to visiting any county facility.

“It is great to see that our customers are holding on to their recyclables and household hazardous waste items in order to properly and safely dispose of them,” Snohomish County Solid Waste Director Matt Zybas said. “However, we have also seen a rise in improperly dumped E-waste, such as computers, monitors and TVs, at Snohomish County facilities in the past few months. Those items should be properly disposed of using the Washington State Department of Ecology’s E-waste disposal program.”

Public Works continues to ask that visits to Solid Waste facilities only be made for essential garbage, customers wear a mask and use six-foot social distancing when at any county facilities. Credit/debit cards are the preferred method of payment to reduce exposure to the public and employees during the pandemic.
