Executive Somers Praises Council for Collaboration on 2022 Budget

Snohomish County Council Approves $1.2 billion budget addressing critical needs

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash., November 9, 2021 – After the Snohomish County Council voted to approve the 2022 budget, Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers released the following statement:

“Once again, the partnership between the Snohomish County Council and Executive will deliver for our residents. The 2022 budget addresses our top priorities: improving public safety, protecting our environment, increasing housing options, advancing social justice, preparing for climate change, and providing essential services to the public. Our large, growing, and diverse county demands that we anticipate our communities’ needs and meet them. Even in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, we were able to find ways to address our most pressing challenges. 

“I appreciate the leadership of Council Chair Wright and Vice Chair Dunn, both of whom spent hundreds of hours balancing the many needs with our available resources. I want to thank Councilmembers Mead, Nehring and Low for their collaboration. We also can’t build an effective budget without the partnerships with our other elected officials, including Sheriff Fortney, Auditor Fell, Prosecuting Attorney Cornell, Treasurer Sullivan, Assessor Hjelle, Judge Weiss, Judge Fair, Clerk Percy, and the other judges of the Superior and District Courts. 

“This year’s budget will ensure we can equip our deputies and rangers with body cameras, build up our green fleet, hire more detectives to reduce domestic violence and crimes against children, fix passages for salmon, deploy more crime prevention officers to our streets, improve our county’s largest economic engine, Paine Field Airport, build and maintain our network of roads to keep people and goods moving, and address community health. County Government touches everyone, and we are committed to being fiscally responsible and delivering the best possible service.”
