Heroin and Opioid Forums
The Heroin and Opioid epidemic affects all of us. It devastates families. It hurts our employers and local economies. It puts law enforcement at even greater risk.
Please join me this Thursday at Cavelero Mid High School for a forum on Heroin and Opioids in Snohomish County. This is a conversation we must have as a community.
Thursday's meeting is one of four forums
sponsored by the Snohomish Health District and Snohomish County Human Services:
- Thursday, Sept.15 at 6:30 p.m. at Cavalero Middle School (8220 24th St. SE, Lake Stevens, Wash.)
- Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Orca Room at Tulalip Resort (10200 Quil Ceda Blvd., Tulalip, Wash.)
- Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. at Byrnes Performing Arts Center (18821 Crown Ridge Blvd., Arlington, Wash.)
- Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in Woodway Hall at Edmonds Community College (20000 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood, Wash.)
Each forum will have a panel of subject matter experts to address audience questions.
The impact of Heroin is being felt across our state and nation but has been especially devastating in our county. Since 2011 Snohomish County experienced 18 percent of all heroine-related deaths in Washington State, although the county comprises only 10 percent of the state's population.
Our law enforcement is on the front lines of this scourge and I think we need to listen to them. They are looking for answers other than the revolving door of arrest, jail, and repeat. They are telling us that more effective mental health and addiction services are needed. I agree.
